New Words, Old Memories

Tyner    May 4, 2015 May 14, 2017    No Comments on New Words, Old Memories

A Season Of Loss

When I was a kid, Christmas was a big deal in my house. My mother was an overt Christmas lover; she would hang the first decorations about the same time as the first snow fell, Boney M Christmas music would … Continue reading →

A few days ago, in the middle of my shift, I got a call from my boss. “You need to go to Burnaby,” he told me, and from the tone of his voice I could tell he had his eyes … Continue reading →

A Few Lessons Learned

Tyner    October 27, 2014 May 14, 2017    No Comments on A Few Lessons Learned

Over the past year, writing has been hard. Despite the fact that I continually find small slices of inspiration and make declarations of a renewed work ethic, both in my head and on this blog, those small slices have been … Continue reading →

A Young Man’s Guide To Women

Tyner    September 30, 2014 May 14, 2017    No Comments on A Young Man’s Guide To Women

*Note* This is not a lesson on how to “Get” women. I have no idea how to “Get” a girl; I am already married to a girl who picked me up and dusted me off and made me presentable. Why … Continue reading →

“Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.” – Robert E Howard When I was about six years old, my elder cousin, Mike, had been … Continue reading →

The Beauty of a Faceplant

Tyner    September 1, 2014 May 14, 2017    No Comments on The Beauty of a Faceplant

Anyone familiar with the Mounted Police will be aware of a demonic torture device they’ve devised called the P.A.R.E. Or, Physical Abilities Requirements Evaluation. It is kind of like an obstacle course devised by a devil to be inflicted upon … Continue reading →

Writing Like An Old Man Drives…

Tyner    July 31, 2014 May 14, 2017    No Comments on Writing Like An Old Man Drives…

…Slow and sloppy. (Okay, so, I stole that line from George Carlin – although his version was far more colourful – but it fit the theme I was thinking about today, and I didn’t think he’d mind.) As I was … Continue reading →

A Good Time to Keep My Mouth Shut

Tyner    June 28, 2014 May 14, 2017    No Comments on A Good Time to Keep My Mouth Shut

I’ve been thinking a lot about perspective, lately, and how it relates to me, in both my personal and writing life. But over the past few days a few incidents have really highlighted the fact that there are times to … Continue reading →

I've heard that there may be a "Bigfoot" hunting season in Oklahoma.

I'm just gonna throw this out there: If someone finds Bigfoot, and then kills it, I will kill them.

I'm a 6'1", 244 lbs, 40 year old Staff Sergeant in the RCMP and I am sitting in my office at 0700 hours listening to the Spice Girls on my phone.

And I love it.

One of my sergeants didn't do his weekly tactical report (the list of stuff his unit is doing).

So I did it for him. And populated it with shit I made up.

He'll be shocked to learn he has to wrestle a giant snake on Wednesday and play chess with the Queen by weeks end.

Spencer and I had our first weigh-in today. I started at 250.0, and came in at 244.8. Spencer started at 245, and came in at 237.0.

He is winning, but not for long.
